A City of My Dream

To begin with I can straight away say the city of Nagpur is going through a change over. You will find glimpses of changes in many places in the city, be it roads, buildings, flyovers, gardens. Every time, I visit the city I find, it looks different. Whatever I have seen in my earlier visits, sometimes I find it is not there. New buildings come up. Vacant places disappear and new structures showcase their appearances. Streets are more crowdy.

They are full of strange people. People I feel hailing from different regions. Some of them I thought a bit outsiders. But this invariably happens in most of the places when economic growth, progress, development and industrialization take place. People migrate from one place to another place in search of better living conditions, employment opportunities and perhaps better environment. How could Nagpur be an exception to this general rule? After all, demographic changes do take place.

However, what is important is the pace of development and how it reaches to most of the people of the regions. The city dwellers will always care to have better infrastructure like roads, electricity, water, primary education and healthcare. Do they have these very essential facilities? Answer may not be yes. I know some of these are not controlled by city administrators. Unfortunately whatever is in their sphere of operations is not done. Overall, I have found people from Nagpur city, nay a Vidarbha region are somewhat easy going and keep themselves away from extra efforts.

The leadership needs to be more aggressive and progressive as well. Unless everyone shades the apathy, a sort of complacent and carefree nature, dull attitude you won’t be able to catch up other regions and places in regards to development activities. We have a status of second capital of the state. Do we enjoy this honour? No. Not at all. Because it is not accompanied by achievement in respect of industries, commerce, finance, sports and cultural activities.

All round development will not be complete without social, cultural and even sports events. Ask for more. I do not mean bounties concessions or doles. More work. Higher and higher goals and targets. Change your attitude. The way you look at things. You need not be greedy. But do not be happy with what little you have. If you work more, you will get more. Look around and you will find this is what others are doing. You can reach their level of progress and development if you can drop your laziness.

When we visit other cities in the world, we get never tired in speaking about the cleanliness one finds there, the beautiful roads, gardens, very little noise and air free from pollution and disciplined traffic etc. We can do that here also. What is needed is a will to do that. A proper attitude. I want Nagpur city to be like this. A city of my dream.
